When I picture my future, it is me with children. I want to create a family through adoption for many reasons, but the most significant reason is my strong desire to parent. I believe a family is created with both those whom we match on a cellular, genetic level and those we bring into our lives because a part of them speaks to us.

I appreciate the decision you are making and the birth plan you are putting in place for your child. Thank you for taking the time to consider me, and everyone else, as you plan for your baby’s future.
Hello, I am Christina, I was raised in southeastern Michigan. My mother named me, and raised me, giving us a last name that she and I share because it is her favorite color. As an only child, both of my parents are a tremendous force in my life. One of my parents is white, the other black, and my multi-ethnic heritage definitely influenced my journey to the person that I am today.

Learning is an important part of who I am, and it is a part of my everyday life. I like to figure things out and try new things. I often start by reading then experimenting. It’s how I figured out jogging, how to play the ukulele, and how I face most challenges — read, learn, then go! I enjoy bike riding, baking, and taking walks.

I spend my days with two-hundred middle school students. I am responsible for ensuring that they have the absolute best academic experience, tailored to who they are and what they need. I am always telling families at our school, “thank you for allowing me to spend the day with your baby!”

I believe a home is less about the space you are in and more about the feeling. I moved to Washington DC in 2009, and moved into my own place in 2015. Where I live currently is the same size as the home, I grew up in. I love coming home to my small dog, Finn. I frequently host friends and family; I am grateful for the ample space to have many visitors.

I spend a great deal of time with my friend-family, here in DC, many of whom I have known for over ten years. We are always doing some fun-filled activity outside with their families. I love the close-knit group of people that I have connected with. I have a mix of single friends and friends with families; including twin five-year-olds, teenagers, and babies.

Where I live, just outside of Washington DC, makes me happy. The community’s energy is warm, and there is a lot of outdoor activities and events. There are also several parks, trails, and bike paths nearby. This area is diverse with a lot of Caribbean, East African, and Latinx families.

Many of my traditions center around traveling with my family. Every Thanksgiving I travel with my father, Marvin. We also travel to a destination of his choice every spring; last year it was Chicago, and the year before that was Arizona. Every winter my mother, Carolyn, her partner, and my sister and I spend the winter holidays together. We typically go to Michigan, but we have also met in Washington, DC, Seattle, New York, and Vancouver.

I love taking road trips and going to new places. I will often visit Spanish-speaking countries to do language study, to strengthen my ability to communicate in Spanish, because speaking Spanish is a huge part of my work. I likely average 4-6 trips a year; I am content to find a new place and explore. Travel guides are useful, but wandering is the best! I look forward to continuing our family traditions and travel adventures as my family grows.

By Sarah, sister

Chris is my half-sister, our parents met when we were in our early 30s. She truly is the sister I never knew I needed until she was in my life. Chris is one of my closest friends and will certainly be an incredible mother.

By Marvin, Papi

Christina has bettered my life in so many ways. She is funny, loving, independent, and compassionate. I deeply admire, respect, and adore the woman she has become.

By Carolyn, Mama

Chris is a woman who carries her family and friends close, and she maintains those relationships over time and distance. We are all excited about Chris’ plan to adopt. Once more, we will be able to expand our love to include another!

By Steve, Mama’s person/Sarah’s dad

When I first met Chris, she was somewhat reserved, but over time, we warmed up to each other to the point that I now see her as a second daughter. Chris is the most caring, loving, giving woman with an awesome blended family. A family that will function as a support system to Chris raising a child.

I promise to make your child my priority. I promise to nurture, care and love for your child. My family and my community are incredibly supportive of my decision to grow my family through adoption. I hope to be able to remain in contact with you, to keep you updated throughout your child’s life. Whatever level of communication you desire, I will make sure your child knows their adoption story.

Thank you.
